Five Star Hotels | Four Star Hotels | Three Star Hotels | Two Star Hotels | One Star Hotels
The classification of hotels [alberghi] in Italy is controlled by law. The star system is used, grading hotels from one star through to five, with the added label lusso [luxury] being available for five star hotels. The assigning of stars is the responsibility of the local authorities, with some minor differences occuring between regions. Classification is based on a point system. Hotels are evaluated on specific criteria, based on the services they offer i.e room size, facilities, cost etc. For example, a private bathroom in all rooms is worth 30 points, while if en-suite facilities are available in 90% the points drop to 25. A night porter is worth 10 points, as does 24hr room service.
